Do Terrorists Think We Will Join Them?

(CNN) -- Calling President Bush "the murderer and spiller of Muslim blood," al Qaeda's top deputy, Ayman al-Zawahiri, released a videotape Friday accusing the U.S. president of being a "deceitful charlatan" who has lied to the American people.

I’m sure many people, including Americans, can think of a few things to call President Bush, but “deceitful charlatan” coming from a Muslim Cleric? I think that’s just a little bit silly.

Why is al Qaeda now speaking to the American public? Are they trying to say that Bush lied to them about the fact that al Qaeda is killing innocent people and slaughtering their own civilization? In Iraq, soldiers aren’t being targeted anymore, civilians are! Terrorists are holding their own children at gunpoint to try and get the American’s to back down, and they say our president lied?

Or are they speaking to their own people and trying to say that Terrorism is the better choice over Democracy by trying to make us look more evil than they are? I’m not sure what is going on, but so far all they’ve been doing is calling our government names and asking Allah to throw lightning bolts at us, and apparently when Allah doesn’t, they do it themselves.

But by vehemently pointing out things about our current government that Democrats and Republicans say about each other to the American people every day, my question is are they trying to do more than make our government look bad?

Are they actually trying to turn us against each other? Do they really think we will join them?

On the tape, al-Zawahiri calls the leader of the Roman Catholic Church an "impostor" whose religion "is made of myths, like the Trinity, crucifixion, sacrifice and the original sin."

Okay, so is theirs! I really don’t understand, right here they’re either condemning their own religion or encouraging atheism (??). Islam and Catholicism are the same religion with different prophets, and each one has its share of supposed “myths.” Trinity, crucifixion and the original sin? Try the Holy City, polygamy, and suicide! I really don’t understand where these Terrorists are going with this whole “my religion has a bigger penis than yours,” but it’s gotten old.

I really don’t understand why the Muslims think they are being oppressed? Is it really because we took Israel from Palestine? Even if we did give it back to them (which we never will because it never belonged to them), would it stop the violence? Would it make the Mujahadeen go back to their homes and cease to exist? Would rioting and suicide bombings stop and would Muslims simply go about their business and leave the West alone?

Sadly I don’t think so. I was wrong, this war isn’t about Israel, or oil, or imperialism, this war could probably be the most justified war in the history of civilization. This war truly is about freedom, and not just some other poor ransacked country’s freedom…this is about our freedom. Our Freedom. Mohamed said kill all infidels, convert all non-believers.

If we pulled all our advertising from Muslim countries, withdrew our support for Israel, let the Arabs have their blood, and never interfered with another Jihad ever again, the Middle East would still come after us. They would still crash airplanes into our towers and decapitate our journalists and burn our flag because they want every school in America to be a Madrasah, every church to be a Mosque, and every store to close 5 times a day and every woman and female child to be veiled, banned from public education, and stoned to death for showing their ankles. This war is about control and oppression, but who is really being oppressed?

Let’s stand behind our soldiers and hope we make it out of this one, because I’m starting to think that this war is a heck of a lot more dire than our media is telling us it is.

Allah be merciful and God help us all.

As a fellow infidel I agree with everything you say please keep up the good work. As nothing is simple in this world I still think its modernity verses feudalism including the battle within Islam itself, lets hope freedom of speech prevails.

Son,

You are young, and although you may be quite bright, you do not know enough to comment lucidly on the troubles in the Middle East. Those troubles are fueled by imperialism and hegemony, and go back further than you can possibly have studied.

Your President, and all who surround him are psychopaths and liars.

You are old enough to travel on your own. I suggest you put on a back pack and do so. I would further suggest that you identify yourself as Irish, or Lithuanian, or such , and deny your American citizenship when outside of the States. Sadly, the last few administrations in your country have destroyed the good will that was afforded the US by the rest of the world, and you are not safe outside of the US.

Good luck.

To the above poster who was too cowardly to post the link to his own blog:

I suggest you leave America and go to Lithuania or Ireland or back to the Middle East where you came from rather than to tell a young American to turn against her country. I support Democracy, will stand behind it to the end, and do not believe in tolerating bloodshed and terrorism simply under religious tolerance.

Your admission that the President is a psychopath only proves that I'm speaking to a democrat. Every administration will have someone who will call it a failure. Government exists by being an impass between groups of people who will never be satisfied unless it is all their way.

I fail to see how so-called "Imperialism" is wrong in the sense that we ousted an Iraqi dictator who truly was a psychopath and are attmepting to build a nation that can sustain itself and be free LIKE AMERICA. And not just like America, like the UK, like Canada, like Australia.

I challenge the above poster to post back and say what he would do differently if he were the President.

Remember 9/11. We will never forget.

I'm the above poster.

Not cowardly, I just didn't think my blogs were pertinent to your direction. I posted as "Dad" in a self-deprecating attempt at levity.

I suggest you leave America
I'm in America, but it is North America - as opposed to Central or South America. I am not in the united States of America - which is where you live. And frankly, I will not travel to the US any longer because I feel it is unsafe to do so. I might end up in Guantanamo, or such.

I support Democracy, will stand behind it to the end, and do not believe in tolerating bloodshed and terrorism simply under religious tolerance.
Sorry, but if what is happening in Iraq since the invasion by the US is not bloodshed and terrorism, what is? Iraq is much worse off since the US initiated an illegal war on false pretext. And how arrogantly, predictably American of you to presume to tolerate, or not tolerate the religious beliefs of a country a half a world distant from your own sphere of being. What business is it of yours? Don't tell me that you think Hussein is responsible for 9.11. Look to your own government for that.

Your admission that the President is a psychopath only proves that I'm speaking to a democrat.
I am not a Democrat. Nor am I a Republican, Conservative, Communist, Green, NDP, Rhino, or any other affiliation. I am a human being that can think for myself, and see that all of these isms are just bullshit.

Your admission that the President is a psychopath only proves that I'm speaking to a democrat.
I did not admit that your President is a psychopath - I asserted it. And it seems that a large number of your fellow citizens agree (judging from your mid-term elections). Unfortunately, there is not a great deal of difference between your Democrats and Republicans - they will both sell you out for their own purposes.

Your (mis)statement that "proves" that I am a Democrat is indicative of the simplicity of your thought processes. Calling someone a "Democrat" may be some type of an epithet in the States, but it is meaningless outside the States. And to put everyone in a box that is either Democrat, Republican, Left or Right is about as fallacious as saying that "you're either with us, or against us". What the hell does that mean?

I fail to see how so-called "Imperialism" is wrong in the sense that we ousted an Iraqi dictator who truly was a psychopath and are attmepting to build a nation that can sustain itself and be free LIKE AMERICA.
Imperialism has proven itself wrong over and over again. To whit: the Roman Empire, the Austro-Hungarian Empire, The Mongol Empire, The British Empire, The French Empire, The Dutch Empire, the Spanish Empire, etc., etc. All have failed because imperialism is untenable.

Saddam Hussein is certainly an evil person, but he was created and supported by your government, and was used until he no longer served their purpose. I challenge you to tell the world how Iraq is better off now than it was in February of 2003. Hussein kept the fabrication (by the British and French) of Iraq from spiralling into internecine fighting for 24 years. Look at it now.

If I were your President, I would restore the civil liberties that you have lost. I would invest in the proper education of your young people. I would institute medical insurance for every single American. I would abolish the death penalty. I would heavily tax any corporation that moved it's jobs to Mexico, India, Bangladesh, wherever, in an attempt to persuade them to keep the jobs in the States. I would not condone torture, wire-taps, "renditions", and so forth. I would do a lot more than that, but it really doesn't matter. I have about as much chance of becoming President of the united States of America as you do. That would be zero chance.

tell a young American to turn against her country.

I thought that you were a male. I'm sorry if I misunderstood that. I certainly did not tell you to turn against your country, I suggested that you put on a back-pack and go traveling - that you might gain a broader understanding of the world that you live in. I suggested that you not identify yourself as an American because in a lot of the places I have been, it would not be safe for you to do so. I have met many Americans abroad in my many years of traveling, and a lot sewed a Canadian flag on their packs. They were not ashamed of being American, nor did they turn against their country, but they did realize that the foreign policies of the US made it dangerous for them to proclaim their nationality.

Canada is wasting her good will in the world too. Our foreign policy has taken a very un-Canadian turn. I have identified myself as anything but North American for quite a few years now. Experience changes your perceptions of yourself, and your country.

I still say - go traveling, and form a more informed view of the world.

I am regretful of seeming condescending, and for stimulating an ill-informed patriotic fervour in you.

Good Luck in your life. Sincerely.

Actually Nikki, I came back here earlier to comment on your post about your father - the one in which your sister suggested that you show it to your Dad.

I really wanted to say that she is right. We live secret lives inside our heads, and most people do not understand each other very well. It can be difficult to express ourselves in spoken word, and even harder in the written word - as the inflections and subtleties are difficult to relay.

As much as you know that your father doesn't understand you, he knows the just as little of you. The only way for you to know and respect each other is to speak openly (but with tact) to each other. Don't get into pissing matches - your Dad has a lot more experience at that than you do.

You have no compunction with sharing your thoughts and feelings with potentially 6.3 billion people, so why be afraid to do the same with someone you have a relationship with?

Be true to yourself, and don't try to live up to anyone's expectations but your own. Have high expectations for your own character and humanity.

And really - go traveling. Look and listen. Get yourself in crazy situations, even dangerous ones. It builds character, and you seem to have a good head-start on that.

best,

"Dad"

Sorry, but if what is happening in Iraq since the invasion by the US is not bloodshed and terrorism, what is? Iraq is much worse off since the US initiated an illegal war on false pretext. At the time, intelligence pointed to links with Al Qaeda, Chemical agents were found in Iraq, however it was determined that the quantities discovered were not sufficient enough to produce Weapons of Mass Destruction. The Iraq situation is a mess, I will admit, hopefully replacing Donald Rumsfeld will allow us to fight the war the way it should be fought. Rumsfeld wanted to win the war with few resources, which has been shown to be impossible. Saddam was put in power by us, then he went off in his own direction (which seems to be a trend in those the US puts in power) and we dealt with him. The fact that a country was starving while a Dictator thrived and used chemical weapons on his own people is called genocide.

And how arrogantly, predictably American of you to presume to tolerate, or not tolerate the religious beliefs of a country a half a world distant from your own sphere of being. What business is it of yours? Islamists attack the world every 200 years or so, if an oppressive ideology which hides behind the veil of religion believes in taking away human rights, then it is in Humanities’ best interest to do away with that so called “religion.” It is the world’s business, not just ours. I don’t see our women veiled and stoned for showing their ankles. If ants are biting at your feet, you kill them with raid.

Don't tell me that you think Hussein is responsible for 9.11. Look to your own government for that. Are you one of those conspiracy theorists who believe that Bush planned the 9/11 attacks just so he could peddle an excuse to invade Iraq?

Saddam Hussein is certainly an evil person, but he was created and supported by your government, and was used until he no longer served their purpose. I challenge you to tell the world how Iraq is better off now than it was in February of 2003. There were No-Fly Zones in Saddams Own Country! People WILL eventually have the right to free speech, free press, free trade, freedom. The US Army has set up Water Treatment Plants, Functioning Hospitals, the people VOTED! And even though we’re working on the government, the Iraqi people do not have to live oppressed. Muslim extremists are targeting Iraqis to destroy freedom. These people hate freedom. I’ve seen them. The short term solution is to pull out of Iraq and let the insurgents have their blood…but like I said, they will still not be satisfied until Freedom (which they believe is against God) is purged from the Planet.

How are you going to do this if your country is being conquered by Muslim Extremists who will take away ALL of your civil liberties? How are you going to keep the businesses in this country if all of their buildings have planes flown into them? How are you going to guarantee equal rights if you don’t secure the borders? How are you going to guarantee Medical Insurance for every citizen while supporting the illegal alien population as well? How are you going to guarantee freedom of speech when that speech is conspiracy to overthrow YOUR government? And I would torture the terrorists to find out who they are, where they are, and how we can KILL THEM ALL.

War is inevitable, its not always wrong. The only way to keep OUR people safe is to eliminate those who would make it unsafe. You will probably try to rebuttal by saying that then America becomes a Police State…Iraq was a police state under Saddam.

Canada is wasting her good will in the world too. Our foreign policy has taken a very un-Canadian turn. I have identified myself as anything but North American for quite a few years now. Experience changes your perceptions of yourself, and your country. If the devil was knocking at your doorstep, would you let him in or shoot him in the head from your window? I find it unnerving that you would turn against your own country simply because you don’t agree with what it is doing. I don’t agree with a lot of things my country is doing, but I will still always be an American because I believe in Freedom. America was founded on the basis of Freedom, Islam and Extremists ideologies were not. We vow to crush these ideologies that seek to destroy freedom.

I am regretful of seeming condescending, and for stimulating an ill-informed patriotic fervour in you.
Spoken from a non American attempting to discuss American Policy.

Good Luck in your life.
You too.

I don't understand why everyone is giving TERRORISTS leway in things like torture and Gitmo and forein aid. They're terrorist, subhuman, not worth our time, and 9/11 proves it. We should support the goddamned war because its not going to end anytime soon and we're losing it because of lack of public support. Harsh? Maybe.

Listen, some of the people are terrorist, but some are not. Speaking of course of the prisoners. We have to be better than the monsters of this world. You have to treat everyone with respect that comes with being human. stripping away rights of human beings because you feel that you are right and they are wrong. that isn't right. You have to be better than them. why you feel superior to the other people of this world contiues to dumbfound me. you feel superior to Muslims, Democrats. All muslims are not terrorist. Dems are not American haters. They just see thing different from you. You have got to learn how to respect others.

Why people feel the need to stick up for them is beyond me. There are many greater injustices than mistreating prisoners that nobody is getting worked up about in this country. You'd be suprised at how many "innocent" prisoners actually did have ties to so and so terrorist organization. Maybe the punishment might not fit the crime completely in some cases, but I think we're right a lot more often than we're wrong. Democrats see mercy as the highest form of good, I do not.

dad. Yes, the 'troubles' go back about 2,000+ years.
Until they embrace the Lord, they will be continually fighting each other. "He left them to their own sins."
not anonymous, again! What a foolish and oversimplified 'scary' person. Our enemies, captured on the battlefield, with weapons (POWs) are housed in GITMO. One of the most plush POW camps ever set up in the entire world. Have you seen: The great raid? The JAPS were racist. Have you read about the death march by the JAPS in WW II? Don't even try to compare with the "hanoi hilton" .

Now. Nikki. I congratulate you for being patriotic and supporting the freeest country in the world.

We have fought for our freedoms with our ancestor's blood and courage. Many who blog are cowards and would not take up arms to defend themselves from robbers into their own homes. In SC, we have castle defense and people are allowed to defend themselves legally and morally.

I invite you back.

I have wondered if any American is angry enough to hurt his fellow Americans. I read the Cobra Event by Richard Preston (fired wierdo disseminates virus that causes people to bite off their body parts). Now I heard that we have angry kids coming out of poor or no day care that would kill you or me without a care. And those school shooters? Tim McVeigh and Terry Nichols were Americans by God. Our military and intelligence agency uses people on the ground in places to organize resistance. When does it happen against us? Or has it already started?
